April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July, began taking guitar and piano lessons at seven years old. The passion for creating songs was sparked. The first song she wrote was called Different which she composed when she was 12 years old. She spent a lot of time when she was 14 making songs and practicing music. After that, she started taking trips to write with her father in NY and LA. April also added additional themes to the song "Take My Hand" to help her the friends she had who struggled with issues such as peer pressurization problems, as well as teens who committed suicide. Lockhart is a partner at the well-known Clean Beauty brand Ilia as well as an influencer in the lifestyle industry with her own growing following. Her birth was without a left hand, and it's part of who she is--but that's not the entire story. Lockhart, via video message from Nashville home, says that I don't wish for that to be a part of my character. I'm greater than the physical person I am. This doesn't have any effect on my daily life. I conduct every day as normal and have found my own way to adjust to things. In addition, I see it a very important aspect of me. Self-acceptance is a long marathon but Lockhart truly inspires me for this aspect. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of insecurity with her body and feeling uncomfortable in certain clothes that exposed her arms. It's her choice to wear what she wants, and she happily shares pictures of her in these outfits. Self-love, she says, is a process. "I believe that you'll be there," she said. It's true for all regardless of level of insecurity. The people around you with who truly know you and see into your heart are the ones you should be relying on to remind you of what you're concerned about.
